Designing a bedroom around a view
In Summerland the sea is a narrow strip over the rooftops. Everything in the room was placed to keep your eye on it.

The view from the Morenos' bedroom is maybe a hand's width of ocean above the neighbours' roofs. It is the best thing in the room, so everything else had to get out of its way.
Turn the bed first
The bed used to face a closet door. Turning it toward the window meant moving one outlet and a reading light, and it changed the room more than anything we bought.
Keep everything below the sill
The bed frame, side tables and lamp all sit below the window sill, so nothing crosses the line of the water when you are lying down.
Let the ceiling do the lighting
A large woven pendant lights the room from above and throws a soft pattern at night, so there is no reason to look anywhere but out.
Start with two hours at your house
A designer walks every room with you, measures, listens, and sends written notes the same week. The visit is $450, and it comes off your design fee if we go on to work together.
