The brief

The house had one small bath shared by everyone. The Hadleys wanted a primary bath that felt like it had always been there, with a tub they could see the canyon from.

What we did

We combined a deep closet and the old sleeping porch, arched the new window to match the rest of the house and set the tub on the centre line so it reads from the bedroom door. Walls are lime plaster, the floor is handmade terracotta in herringbone and the tub is a single piece of pale limestone.

What changed

Tile was drawn stone by stone so the herringbone lands whole at both doorways. The room was finished two weeks ahead of the plumber's own schedule.

“Our contractor said it was the clearest set of tile drawings he had been handed in twenty years.”
